Cake Smash | Special Needs Photographer

Not too long ago, I noticed there was a bit of a need for photographers who not only are willing to work with special needs toddlers and children, but actually want to. There are a large number of photographers who are afraid of children, let alone little ones who have needs and triggers they don’t understand! I have always had a soft spot in my heart for babies and children with special needs, so I’ve decided to put a little more focus into helping the families who I believe will treasure the images them most. It’s hard work raising a baby, but my hat is off to all of the mamas that spend their days running from physical therapy to speech therapy to every other appointment under the sun just to help their little ones out. You’re my hero <3

First Birthday Cake Smash | Special Needs Photographer

Let me begin by saying that I had the best time working with this family. Through the referral of a friend, his Mommy answered our model call; Elliott has Down Syndrome but he is perfect in every way!  This was the first time I’ve worked with little Elliott and I couldn’t have found a better model. He is such a sweet, happy little guy and his taste for chocolate frosting really made the day! Our session took place at his family’s home in Longmont where he promptly smashed the gorgeous cake his grandma had made for him (what a talented baker she is!).

Of course we couldn’t let Elliott have all the fun by himself!  Towards the end, big sister Addie – and – his Mommy jumped in for a little frosting smear-fest fun and it was photographic gold for this special needs photographer!

The day after the cake smash, little Elliott decided to start crawling! I am positive its because he was fueled with chocolate powered energy 😉 His parents have done a great job raising him. Hopefully I’ll get to work with them all in the future again for a family session.
